SWEETING SECURES WIN FOR COMMUNITY

Notts Senior League
Premier Division
BASFORD UNITED COMMUNITY 2 FC CAVALIERS 1

This was my first visit to Greenwich Avenue since they have laid down the lovely 3g on the pitch and it looks grand, a lot of hard work has been put in by the club over the close season. Also Basford United have set up 2 community teams of youngsters that have entered the Notts Senior League.

Before the match, I met Swifty, the groundsman and odd job man, a chap I have known for knocking on 30 years and also looking as young as he ever did, followed by local hoppers Pete Chappell, Big Mac, Malc Storer and Michael Pridgeon, May I thank Michael for the kind £10 donation made to the Charity Blog for some programmes.

Just before kick off, League Secretary Tracie Witton arrive with her baby grandson, first time Ive not seen Tracie with a cuppa in her hand.

The game kicked off and it was the Community on the front foot and a shot turned round the post saw the Cavs keeper stay down for a while injured. He solidered on for the while match but Eggy was taking all the goal kicks.

Cavs came more in to the game, pushing forward and on 33 minutes IMMAIN SAMUELS shot his side in to the lead. The game flowed from end to end with lots of chances and right on the stroke of half time, EZRA KITUNGANO equalised.

During half time, I went for a cuppa and was called away on League duty to the other game that had been played on the outside pitch meaning I missed the first 5 minutes of the second half in which time EWAN SWEETING had turn the tables round and put the Basford club in front.

The rest of the game could have gone either way as it was a fairly level match, but Basford held on for thir three points.
